Help Stop Bullying!!

I know the purpose of this blog is to talk about things that bring happiness to our lives. But  today, when I was reading the news looking for a subject to write an essay about it, I found something that really touched me and I decided to share with you. Hope you all have a wonderful evening and let’s think about this, ok?

Children getting bullied at School. When are we going to wake up?

Watching the News on the Internet, I found this video presented by a popular news channel: an eleven years old boy took his life away because he was getting bullied at school. The News channel also provided us a video shown on You Tube where the 11 year-old explains he was getting bullied because of his sexual orientation. He realized he was different from the other boys and most of his friends were girls. On an interesting note, he mentioned how much support he was getting from people who were not his family.

The number of children getting bullied at school has risen on a daily basis and unfortunately parents, caregivers and teachers haven’t noticed on time, especially on those cases involving sexual orientation. Despite how much information provided by the media and the knowledge we have about it, we still living in a society unable to accept certain facts and totally unprepared for the matter.

I think for most parents, is somewhat a difficult task, dealing with a child who is discovering herself sexually different from others. Information of how to talk to your child and how to support them, are rare, not to say, impossible to find on those million books parents read when they are pregnant, or want to learn how to make their kids to behave. These books don’t prepare parents to deal with the matter, don’t teach them how to identify if you child is getting bullied at school, if your child is one of the bullies, or even if your child has signs of having a different sexual orientation.

The way of improving how the society will deal with these problems, is providing parents, teachers, caregivers and students bullying seminars and orientation. Draw theirs’ attention to any behavior that implies signs of someone who is getting bullied or the ones who are bullying their friends. For this and many other reasons, parents need to be prepared and know how to deal with the situation, not only at home with their own children but with the school and how to approach them about the problem.

The subject also needs to be more and more disseminated by the media. Everyone needs to be concerned about the lives of this kids and how they are growing, the environment we are providing to them and learn that who they are and who they will be is part of all of us job in the society. No one is  impunity for acts committed in our society.

We spend so many hours on the Internet, using Facebook, Twitter to share our thoughts and pictures, why we don’t start to use these tools to spread our knowledge about something that might change someone’s life. It is past time for us to open our eyes for the real world. We are living in an Era where human beings have the rights to choose whatever they want for themselves. The big question is, how long will take for us to accept it?


Ahhh Friday!

Good morning everyone,

How was your week? Well, my week was busy yet great.

As usual, all my friends on facebook were posting things like: ” Is it friday yet?”, “God, I can wait for friday!”, and things like that. But I was actually on the opposite team. I didn’t want friday to come and I wished the week would pass by really slow. The reason is because I wasn’t working this week. I didn’t plan much to do, once everyone else was working. So I tried to have some fun by myself, try new recipes, visit new restaurants and places that I haven’t been before. But I will save this for another post.

I was here thinking what could I blog about on this post, and something came on my mind: COFFEE. All old and good coffee. I know the americans love coffee as much as the brazilians do, no doubt! It always remind me so much my grandma, sitting down with her for breakfast and talk about life. I miss her so much!

Something about our coffee makes it really tasty and special. It something that makes you feel home, comfy. As much as I try not to drink too much coffee, I can’t stay away from it. First thing on my mind when I wake up is coffee. Black and simple. Nothing else and I my day goes by really happy and smooth. Today wasn’t different. I woke up and made myself coffee. Nothing better to enjoy your coffee with toast. Then you spread the butter on top of you toast and you can watch the butter melting on your hot toast. Yumyyyyyy!!


Office Desk!

Hi folks,

Hope you all are doing well. The week has just started but I feel that this week I’m involved in an inexplicable energy to make some changes and clean up my room. Well, my host family are in the process of redecorating the house and taking the opportunity, I decided to arrage my room as well. Now, I finally got started!!

You know when you look around your room and you realize something is missing but you can’t find out what? Well, one of the furniture they changed was the office desk. It was a very nice piece, just didn’t match with the other things, so they let me bring the old desk to my room. Inexplicably, the desk brought so much positive vibes along that made me feel great and happy.

I went crazyyy! Rearrange the whole room, moved my bed, all the furnitures, went to Stapples and got some new office supplies, but by the end of the day, only one thing was missing, and I was still not satisfied.

Thanks to my wonderful boyfriend, who came to see me after work very tired and hungry but as lovely as usual, made a trip to Target and bought me a chair for my desk, now it’s finally complete. And here’s the result:

Family, dogs & Hot Dogs

OMG, how fast a weekend goes? I can’t believe it’s almost Monday already!!  No complaints, this weekend we had a blast! Everything was so good!

Friday we had a really big storm, right on time to pick the kids up from summer camp. I couldn’t believe! I left the house and 5 minutes later, a big storm. I got in the kids camp and the carpool line had been canceled, so we had to park the car and go get them inside of the building. Too bad! I grabbed the only umbrella available and a hoodie that was in the car, in an attempt to use as an umbrella, but it did not work.

I got out of the car, leaving everything there, my purse, my cell phone, just got the car keys with me. First stop on the entrance of the camp, I couldn’t get in because I didn’t have an I.D. with me. Here I go, in the middle of the horrible storm, back to the car to get my I.D. I hate when things like that happens. But well…

Finally I got the kids out of the camp, and for my surprise, the storm got even worse. Making long story short, I got so wet, so wet, like I never been before. As far as my memory allows me to remember, the last time I got soaked like that, was in my childhood. When I was very very young, I used to love play in the rain. It was such a great time. I didn’t care about getting my hair all messy, or catch a cold, or my clothes become transparent. It was just fun, fun and fun!! Now, we feel horrible when something like that happens. We always run away from the rain and so many things make us worried. Miss the old times!

Anyway, saturday was great. Super sunny, and we got a lot of things done. At night, I spent a great time with the kiddos and I had a good night sleep.Today I was feeling so lazy! All I could think during the whole day was about my bed. I laid down for 5 minutes and felt asleep. And I don’t even know why I was feeling so tired. Later I found out everybody was feeling this way today, so I guess probably was the heat. Later on, we had a nice dinner.

We decided to celebrate the new grill and have a nice family dinner. It was so good to feel welcome and to have a little moment as a family, especially when you’re so far away from your family and missing all those great events. I felt so good! It was me, my boyfriend, my host parents, the kids, the dog and hot dogs! We don’t need much and nothing else matters.

I’m back baby!

I’m back! Back to my blog life…

Well, it’s never late, right? And life is not perfect. Sometimes we plan to do things one way and we end up doing something totally diferent.

It has been exactly a month since my last post. I thought I was stronger and my passion for writing a blog would be always and the only motivation I needed to always create great posts and I thought I’d always have something to write about it, because I talk a lot, so we assume that I always have something to say.
Wrong, wrong and wrong. Sometimes, when we find ourselves in front of a paper and pen or the keyboard, it’s just so hard to find words. But that’s the magic of blogs. And I just realized how silly I’ve been for thinking that I should constantly be giving myself and everyone’s else explanations when I don’t write on my blog.

The reason was very simple. I didn’t feel like it. I didn’t know what to write about it. I was feeling kind of vague. I couldn’t find inspirations to write and the days were going by so fast, I was very busy. A lot of things to figure it out. Gosh, I even wish I could write everything down and maybe find solutions. But well, we know things don’t work like that.

I was also always thinking:  “I have to write a huge post, so everyone will read”.

But then today, I was watching Sex and the City and Carry Bradshaw writing on her blog it’s really inspiring and made me think: “Why not?’  Why shouldn’t I try at least and see what would pop out of my mind and even if was just a bunch of words, nothing very solid, these are my thoughts and my blog. I should feel free to write whatever I want to, right? So here I am!

Just a quick update about what is going on: I got a new friend!!! He’s such a lovely and playful friend and now I feel he just came to add more color to my life and somehow to shorten how I miss my dog back home. His name is Pepper. A cute labrador mix.

June: First Anniversary!

This past month me and my love celebrated our first anniversary. I can’t believe it has been one year already. It seems like yesterday and It was such a wonderful year.  So I just want to say one more time how much I love you baby! Thanks for all your support, for your love and patience. You’re the best!!

A week later…

Hi everyone,

How is everyone doing?? It has been a while since my last post. I apologize! I was not feeling so good last week, I had sore throat and earache, plus my allergies that are my best friend and follow me every where. Anyway, things were going crazy inside of me and the last thing I could think was posting something on the blog. But thanks GOD, everything is better now.

Putting everything aside, let’s look forward and be happy. A new week has started and I’m getting excited for the days to follow.

A great news from this week, Saturday, May 28th, my cousin Januaria had her baby girl! OMG, my family is thrilled. We love to have new babies around. I wish so bad I could be there at this moment, but I can’t, so here is to register my happiness for them:

It’s something that bring to us a new way to see life, to smile,
a new way to look around us and to believe that
there’s always a new beginning”.

I also want to say Happy Belated Birthday to my cousin Junior! His birthday was also on Saturday, May 28th. 

Gosh, this family is full of birthdays on May!! =)

Well, today I’m having a down time day. I came to starbucks 4 hours ago and I’m still here. I’m trying to catch up with my virtual life. I wish you all a wonderful week and see you soon!

T.G.I.Fridayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!! I’m sure that’s the day of the week that everybody is looking forward to. But guess what? Some people even on a friday cannot leave the stress and problems of the past week behind and enjoy a relaxing weekend with family and friends.

The mind seems to be so in motion all the time during the week, that is hard to slow down and take easy. Sometimes we don’t realize, but this can be a sign of Stress. A lot of people is suffering with the symptoms of stress and has no idea or just don’t want to believe.

When you feel that you have more on your plate that you can handle or more that you are used to, you have a  big chance to initiate stress. If everything bothers you, you never  feel calm and relaxed, you might be going through stress.  The picture below show us how our body, mind, emotions and behavior reacts to Stress: (click on the image to enlarge)

I’m sure you can find a lot of informations online, but I found an article in one of my boxes and I’d like to share with you guys:

 20 tips for Stress Magagement

1- UNDERSTAND STRESS. Recognize what situations set you off and have a plan to help ease those stressful situations.

2- LET IT GO. Concentrate on the things you can change. Let go of the things are beyond your control.

3- SHARE YOUR FEELINGS. Talk to your friends and family. Sometimes simple conversation about how you feel can help relieve stress.

4- GET ORGANIZED. Don’t procrastinate. Focus on one task at a time. Once it is finished, then go to another task. This helps eliminate the feeling of being overwhelmed and can motivate you to keep going.

5- LEARN TO SAY “NO”. Saying “no” to extra projects, social activities and invitations can be difficult and takes practice, but is important to allow “alone” time for yourself and your family. Remember, it’s OK to say “no”.

6- PICK YOUR BATTLES. If you know you are right, stand your ground in a calm and rational manner. Be flexible, take other people’s opinion into account, and don’t be afraid to compromise. Arguing only intensifies stressful situations.

7- EXAMINE EACH SITUATION. Look at each situation differently. Don’t automatically slip into old responses that are not effective for you.

8- CHANGE NEGATIVE BEHAVIOR. Approach tasks in a positive manner. Target situations and people that support positive behavior patterns.

9- BE PATIENT. Expect to wait. Take a book, magazine or newspaper in case you are stuck waiting in line for an extanded period of time.

10- LAUGH. Laughter is the best medicine. Take time to find the humor in stressful situations.

11- GET ENOUGH SLEEP. Getting plenty of sleep can asist in making day-to-day stresses easier to deal with.

12- EXERCISE. Let out that built-up stress by exercising at least 20-30 minutes three times a week. This benefits both your mind and body.

13- BREATHE. Learn and practice relaxation techniques. When you feel yourself getting stressed, stop and take several slow deep breaths before you begin to deal with the situation.

14- EAT WELL-BALANCED MEALS. Good nutrition is crucial. Make sure to eat a variety of healthy foods from the food guide pyramid and limit intake of caffeine and alcohol.

15- CREATE QUIET TIME. Take a few moments every day to listen to music, relax, pray or meditate to help clear your mind.

16- CHECK YOUR BODY LANGUAGE. If your body feels tense and rigid, take a few deep breaths, relax your shoulders and neck and stand tall. Don’t forget to SMILE. =)

17- ACCEPT COMPLIMENTS. Learn to accept praise from yourself and others. Recognize when you have reached a goal, completed a difficult task or stayed calm in a stressful situation.

18- TREAT YOURSELF. Take time to do something you enjoy. Whether it is reading, gardening, or getting a massage, set aside time to indulge yourself.

19- ALLOW YOURSELF TO MAKE MISTAKES. You are not superman/superwoman, so don’t expect perfection from yourself and others. Accept that you live in an imperfect world and forgive yourself and others for mistakes or imperfections.
